April Essential Oil Spotlight!

This month we will be diffusing Lavender at all of our cleanings. If you only use one essential oil, this should be it!  Lavender is the most versatile of all essential oils. Most commonly known for its relaxing effects, dōTERRA's certified pure therapeutic grade Lavender is toted as the swiss army knife because it can be used for everything. It can be used for bruises, skin irritations, and to cleanse cuts. I keep a Lavender touch in my pocket at all times. You never know when you might need it. It's like having your very own personal first aid kit, perfume, or pick-me-up in your pocket.  The fragrance is calming, relaxing, and balancing both  physically and emotionally.

Here are some fantastic ways to use Lavender in your daily life:

1. Calming

When you are feeling a bit overwhelmed put 1-2 drops in your hand and use the cupping and inhalation method to take a  deep breathe in. Be sure to expand your lungs fully for full effect. Then rub oil on your wrists, temples, and feet for an immediate calming effect on the body.

2. Sleep aid

Here you have several options. You can diffuse Lavender next to your bed, rub a drop or two with coconut oil on the bottom of your feet, or whip up a small bottle of Lavender linen spray and spray your sheets and pillows before you go to bed.

Lavender Linen Spray:

-4oz glass spray bottle
-rubbing alcohol
-water
-5 to 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Fill spray bottle half water with rubbing alcohol and the other half with water. then add your essential oil. Shake and spray bedding and pillows 5-10 minute before you lay down.
*We use alcohol because it help evaporate the water faster while leaving the essential oil scent behind.

3. Bee Sting / Insect Bite

Put a drop of Lavender oil on your bee sting or insect bite to stop itching and reduce swelling.

4. Minor burns

If you have the Lavender Touch Roller then roll it over a minor burn to decrease pain. If you don't then dilute 2 drops with Fractionated Coconut Oil and rub on minor burn. My daughter not long ago skid across the basketball court during a game and had this terrible floor burn. Rubbed the Lavender on and the next morning she was good as new. No more pain.

5. Cuts

Pour a drop of Lavender on a cut to help stop bleeding, clean the wound, and kill bacteria.

6. Eczema / Dermatitis

Mix a few drops of Lavender oil with Coconut oil and use topically on eczema or dermatitis.

7. Nausea / Motion sickness

To alleviate symptoms of motion sickness, place a drop of Lavender oil on the end of your tongue, behind your ears, or around the navel.

8. Dry or Chapped Skin

Mix a few drops of Lavender oil with coconut oil and rub on dry or chapped skin. You can also do this for chapped or sunburned lips.

9. Dandruff

Pour several drops of Lavender oil as well as Melaleuca (Tea tree) into your bottle of shampoo and conditioner to help eliminate dandruff. I usually only put it in my conditioner because I let my conditioner sit on my head for awhile.

10. Cold sores

Put a drop of Lavender oil on your cold sore to help clear it up and to help prevent scaring.

As you can see Lavender oil has many different everyday uses and i wouldn't be caught without it! And another great way to use it only if you are using dōTERRA's oils is for flavoring. Add it to your water, tea, lemonade, brownies, or even salad dressings. It's really up to you here.

*Please know that when I speak of essential oils I am always referring to doTERRA Essential Oils. I do not suggest ingesting any other brand oils. You can tell which of doTERRA's oils can be ingested by the supplement facts on the side. If they are there you are good. If they are not there then do not ingest them.
